One of Earth’s great spectacles

One of the seven wonders of the world and referred to by locals as “Mosi-oa-Tunya” (The Smoke that Thunders), Victoria Falls is certainly a sight to behold. Straddling the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe this great curtain of falling water spans almost 1¼ miles and is justifiably called one of the Wonders of the Natural World.

The facts:

Getting there: Victoria Falls airport in Zimbabwe or Livingstone airport in Zambia are around 1 hour 40 minutes flying time from Johannesburg which is approximately 11 hours (non-stop flights) from the UK).

Best time to travel: Your decision on which side of the falls you will stay will probably be dictated by the time of year you choose to travel, as the water flow varies according to the time of year. Generally, if you visit from mid January to May the Zambian side is preferable, but as the waters diminish from June to early January, the thundering waters are best seen from Zimbabwe.
