Dambulla 3 nights
Day 1 Colombo*/Dambulla: Travel by road to Dambulla (approx 4 hours) and the Heritance Kandalama, a hotel that doesn’t sit on the landscape but is part of it. Shaped like a bird with wings outstretched, it sits in the side of the mountain and is draped in vines.
Days 2-3 Dambulla: Two full days at leisure at this extraordinary hotel. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the imposing rock fortress of Sigiriya. Near-vertical walls soar to a flattopped summit that contains the ruins of an ancient civilisation which dates back to the 5th century. No tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site would be complete without climbing the approximately 1,200 steps to the top, but your reward is simply breathtaking views. Another option is Dambulla Cave Temple, which houses a reclining Buddha and another 150 life-sized Buddhist statues. Optional excursions to Minneriya or Wilpattu are also availble.
Day 4 Dambulla/Colombo*: Transfer by road to Colombo where your tour concludes.
