From the moment you set foot onboard the Rocky Mountaineer, onboard hosts will go above and beyond to make your journey as comfortable as it is unforgettable. Custom-designed glass-dome coaches provide truly panoramic views, which you can take in from the comfort of your seat or, get a little bit closer by stepping into the outdoor viewing area. The Rocky Mountaineer is an all daylight train meaning there are no sleeper cars. Instead you see the sights by day and sleep in a hotel at night, giving you the best of both worlds: maximum views and maximum comfort. On this legendary two day rail route travel from the beautiful coastal city of Vancouver and as you are served a delicious breakfast you can take in the views throughout the Fraser Valley. From fertile greenery, the landscape transforms to the towering peaks of the Coast Mountains, plus you’ll see the mighty Fraser River and the raging whitewater of Hell’s Gate. As you feast on lunch, your Hosts entertain you with stories about the region and later, you’ll disembark the train in charming Kamloops. Reboard the train the following morning and continue to wind your way eastward through the Shuswap region, with stunning lake views all the way. As the train ascends, so will your sense of wonder. Before you know it, you are surrounded by mountains that stretch up to the sky, along with memorable landmarks like Castle Mountain. All too soon your journey concludes in picture-perfect Lake Louise or Banff.
Opt for this two day journey and you’ll discover it’s non-stop stunning! Head out of Vancouver and before too soon you are moving into the wilderness and the fertile farmlands of the Fraser Valley. As you sit back and enjoy both breakfast and lunch you’ll notice the landscapes become more desert-like and a far cry from the coastal rainforest you left behind. Spend a comfortable night at a hotel in Kamloops and then rejoin the train in time for breakfast the following morning. Your senses are sure to be awakened, particularly when you spy the aptly named Pyramid Falls, along with mountains that stretch to the sky, so be sure to have your camera to hand. As you approach Jasper National Park, Canada’s largest, you can’t help but notice the magnificent Mount Robson, the tallest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Jasper is your jumping off point and you’ll definitely want a day or two to explore every corner of this quaint mountain town.
Look forward witnessing true wilderness on this three day journey which departs from Vancouver and winds its way along Horseshoe Bay and the scenic fjords of Howe Sound. As you tuck into breakfast you should keep an eye on the window for stunning views of the surrounding mountains and sea then, as you pass Squamish, leave the ocean behind and find yourself amid the majestic Coast Mountains. As you overnight in Whistler, you will have plenty of time to unwind in this world-famous mountain resort. The next day, continue north from Whistler, following the Fraser River Valley through some of the most contrasting landscapes in Western Canada, where rushing rivers meet arid expanses. The route also takes you through the gold- flecked canyons that once drew wagons of gold prospectors and which have been the home to the region’s Indigenous people for millennia. During the afternoon, towering mountains will catch your eye before you pull into Quesnel, which oozes rustic charm. On day three, continue your Jasper-bound journey as you traverse the wilds of Northern BC, travelling past serene lakes, rushing waterfalls and through increasingly mountainous terrain. Your Hosts will point out the most prominent peaks of the Rockies, including the highest, Mount Robson and, before you know it, you’re arriving into Jasper.

For many of VIA Rail’s routes two classes of travel are usually available - economy and business. Economy passengers receive free WiFi, and can purchase a selection of light meals, snacks and beverages. Some routes include seat assignment. Upgrading to business class is highly recommended and includes access to business lounges, priority early boarding, a selection of complimentary newspapers, pre-meal drinks before enjoying a choice of main entrées, wine with your meal and coffee with liqueur (offered on evening trains).
On VIA Rail sleeping cars, passengers enjoy a reserved seating area for daytime travel, which is made into sleeping berths by an attendant in the evening. A shower room and toilet facilities are located in each car in tarns-continental cars only. Three types of accommodation are offered:-
Berth Class/Section(Upper/Lower) offers deep-cushioned seats, with an optional table by day, that convert to upper and lower beds with privacy curtain at night. Toilet and shower facilities are shared. Complimentary shower kits, including soap, shampoo, shower cap, towel and washcloth are provided.
Cabin for one is a small private room with a sink and air-conditioning. Access to shared showers with complimentary shower kits. The room accommodates one adult in a single bed and two can sit together at least part of the time during the day if desired. Two people travelling together in roomettes are usually located adjacent to each other.
Cabin for two is a private room for two people with toilet facilities and air-conditioning. The room contains comfortable armchairs in the daytime, which convert to upper and lower beds at night. There is a small cupboard (holds one large and one small suitcase), reading lamp and a sink with razor outlet. Shower rooms are nearby.

This two day daylight journey takes you from the towering peaks of the Rockies to Prince Rupert on the Pacific coast. Travel past Mount Robson before crossing the interior plateau of British Columbia and stopping overnight in Prince George (overnight accommodation and transfers not included), before continuing along the Skeena River valley to the port city of Prince Rupert. This journey is available in economy class.
