The Grand Canyon, Arizona's most iconic landmark, is a natural wonder best seen at sunrise or sunset. Spanning 277 miles with walls plunging over a mile to the Colorado River, it's divided into three distinct areas. In the popular South Rim is Grand Canyon Village, scenic viewpoints, hiking, biking and helicopter rides from nearby Tusayan. The quieter North Rim, closed in winter, features Point Imperial and Cape Royal, with hiking and mule rides. Grand Canyon West, run by the Hualapai Tribe, boasts the glass-bottomed Skywalk, extending 70 feet over the rim for breathtaking views.

The South Rim is available year-round. Summer is particularly popular with warm temperatures and cool nights, but bear in mind if you do follow a trail to the canyon floor, the temperature will vary greatly. The canyon is spectacular in winter, dusted with snow, while spring and autumn offer glorious colour and slightly unpredictable weather, with either late-season snow, rain storms or unseasonably warm weather. The West Rim is also available year-round, with soaring summer temperatures, mild winters and lovely spring or autumn temperatures. The North Rim is usually only accessible from mid-May to October.
