Koggala Lake is one of the largest lakes in southern Sri Lanka and is the perfect spot for a tranquil escape. This vast waterway is surrounded by tropical foliage – a paradise for birds and wildlife. Take to the water on a boat safari to explore Cinnamon Island, where you can see traditional harvesting methods, and mangrove forests as kingfishers, herons and lizards thrive in their natural habitat. Visit the historic Koggala stilt fishermen at sunrise or explore local temples and craft workshops. Whether you’re seeking peaceful scenery, cultural insight or adventure, Koggala offers a beautifully unspoilt slice of Sri Lanka.
The south coast’s weather is governed by the south western monsoon. Average temperatures throughout the year rarely drop below 30ºC but the sunniest weather is from November to April, while rainfall is at its highest between June and September.
