Rovos Rail

Since 1989, Rovos Rail has earned an international reputation for world-class train travel. Each vintage, wood-panelled train carries up to 72 passengers, with an Observation Car and open-air balcony at the rear, elegant dining and lounge cars with large picture windows at its centre. In keeping with the spirit of a bygone era, there's no WiFi, radios or televisions on board.

All meals and drinks are included, from a full cooked breakfast to four-course lunches and dinners showcasing fresh local ingredients and traditional South African dishes, beautifully served with fine china, crisp linen and silver. Dress is smart-casual by day and formal by evening.

Accommodation ranges from Pullman suites (with sofa-seating that converts to double or twin beds) to Deluxe suites with a lounge area and mini bar, up to opulent Royal suites spanning half a carriage with a Victorian bath and separate shower. All suites are ensuite, with a safe, fridge and round-the-clock cabin steward service.

Rovos Rail offers journeys from 48 hours to 15 nights, covering the subcontinent's most iconic destinations such as Cape Town to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, the desert landscapes of Namibia and a panoramic journey through South Africa, eSwatini, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Unwind in the wood-panelled Club Car, savour High Tea or a nightcap in the elegant Lounge Car, or watch the scenery unfold from the Observation Car's panoramic windows. All meals and drinks (excluding caviar and French Champagne) are served in the Dining Car, paired with fine South African wines.

Accommodation is in a deluxe suite that transforms from a stylish lounge by day into a cozy bedroom by night, featuring twin or double beds, an en-suite bath or shower, WiFi, entertainment system and 24-hour butler service. Larger luxury suites offer even more space, with full-size baths and added indulgence throughout.
