No trip to Vietnam is complete without exploring the mystical beauty of Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site easily accessible from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. Covering around 579 square miles, the bay features nearly 2,000 limestone islands rising from emerald waters, many hiding spectacular caves and grottos. Cruising aboard a traditional junk boat or boutique ship is the ideal way to experience the scenery. Visitors can enjoy kayaking, swimming, trekking, cycling and snorkelling, or visit floating villages to discover traditional ways of life. Cruises typically last one or two nights and include excursions.
