Queenstown is a year-round resort with four distinct seasons offering an abundance of summer and winter activities. Autumn (Apr-May) is a beautiful time of year to see the changing colours and usually offers clear blue skies and sunshine.

Queenstown has its own airport with regular flights from around New Zealand and Australia. It's a 3-hour drive from Mt Cook, 3 hours from Haast on the West Coast, 2 hours from Te Anau and 3 ½ hours from Dunedin.

We recommend at least 4 nights if you want to include a trip to Milford or Doubtful Sound.
Yes, it's well worth it. Queenstown is busier and has fabulous dining and activities. Wanaka is quieter and more laid-back and ideal for tours into the Mount Aspiring National Park.
