Redang Island belongs to a small Malaysian archipelago of nine islands within protected marine waters, known as Terengganu Marine Park. The marine life is plentiful and you may see black tip reef sharks, turtles, cuttlefish and schools of colourful fish darting about. Snorkelling is also possible from the beach or within the Marine Park, where you can snorkel around a wreck, see some big fish and sometimes even a turtle. The island is a nesting spot for sea turtles with a turtle conservation centre located in the north of the island. During nesting season turtles are hatched and released back to the sea. Inland much of the island is covered by rainforest and jungle trekking is a popular activity.
Weather tends to be sunny and hot throughout the year although March to October is considered the best time to visit. Between November and February the north east monsoon kicks in and heavy rain does occur.
