Known as the Edinburgh of New Zealand and built on Gold Rush riches, Dunedin boasts one of the finest collections of Edwardian and Victorian architecture in the southern hemisphere, with Gothic church spires, ornate mansions and harbour views. As a UNESCO City of Literature, enjoy the Writers' Walk or follow the Street Art Trail for vibrant local and international works.
Around 20 minutes away, Larnach Castle - New Zealand's only castle - offers a glimpse of Victorian wealth through its restored rooms and gardens. Nearby beaches include St Clair for surfing and Long Beach for its impressive caves.
